What is an application for support?
If you cannot support yourself or your family while the Home Office is considering your asylum application, you may be eligible to apply to them for money and somewhere to live.
If you meet the Home Office requirements to receive support, you will be given suitable housing and given access to money that will enable you to buy essential things such as food, clothing and toiletries. If you do not need accommodation but you do need money for essential things, or if you need accommodation but not money, the Home Office consider your application for partial support.
To apply for asylum support, you need to use an ASF1 application form. You can access the ASF1 application form and guidance notes on the Home Office website.
You should read the guidance notes carefully before you apply. On submitting this application the Home Office will consider whether you meet the requirements for support.
If the Home Office has rejected your asylum application, you may be able to receive short-term support while you are waiting to return to your country of origin. This is known as section 4 support. You should also use the ASF1 application form if you wish to apply for section 4 support.
There strict requirements to qualify for section 4 support which is not provided in the same way as other asylum support.
